In nature, entrainment is the phenomenon, where individual agents synchronize their actions. In this installation, smartphones produce repetitive flashes of light and sound at a set frequency. Like fireflies, the devices synchronize their flashes with neighboring phones, eventually aligning to flash at the same frequency. Viewers can disrupt this behavior by touching the phone screens, which increases the flashing frequency.
